The media can be one of your biggest assets when advocating for
suicide prevention. The media provides an objective, credible,
third-party endorsement for SPCC and provides an additional way to tell
our story. It’s important to respect the media’s time, while getting our
message across. This section of the SPCC Website is designed to help
facilitate your work with the media.
When referring to SPCC, we encourage you to use the following talking
points.
SPCC Talking Points
1) SPCC is a statewide organization that unifies suicide prevention
organizations and efforts through collaboration. Initiatives include
Town Hall meetings, etc.
2) SPCC is a resource clearinghouse for suicide prevention, intervention
and postvention activities.
3) SPCC educates and advocates for effective policy and appropriate
legislation to help prevent suicide in Colorado.
Additionally, we encourage trying to get the following messages about
suicide prevention across to the media:
1) Suicide affects everyone, and we have a shared responsibility to
prevent it.
2) Getting help is a good thing -- treatment works.
3) There is hope, there is help...many resources exist...Call
1-800-273-TALK or tell someone.
